Louis XIII

Set on a bluff overlooking the Dordogne River in the lovely countryside of the southwest of France is Chateau de la Treyne, a magnificent chateau built in the 14th and 17th centuries and sensitively restored. The Chateau’s gardens extend into a 300+ acre forest in which one can trek for an hour or more through trails that wind above the river, offering spectacular views of the Dordogne valley.  We stayed in the Louis XIII Room, shown above, a luxurious, open wood-paneled room with large windows overlooking the river. This room and Chateau are among our favorites for ambience, pastoral beauty and fine dining.
